QUESTION 10

MANY TIMES WE SEE A NO-REAL DIFFERENCE IN THE BLESSINGS RECEIVED AND PROTECTION EXTENDED FOR BELIEVERS AND UNBELIEVERS. WHY?

Listen to the apostle of the gentiles. This is what Paul says about God:

Is he the God of the Jews only? is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also. (Romans 3:29)

We know who the true God is, and the unbelievers do not know Him yet. Their unbelief does not make the God of Heaven only our God. He is the God of the whole universe, even the God of all the earth. Whether people acknowledge it or not, He is their God too.

For example, if a child does not acknowledge its true parents, does that disqualify the parents from being the parents of the child?

Truth will remain truth whether it is believed or not.

All humanity is God's by creation. As the Creator of all human beings God extends His love and mercy and protection and sustaining care over all. He is the Father of all by Creation. Therefore, Jesus said:

But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil. Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful. (Luke 6:35, 36)

This shows that our Heavenly Father is kind and merciful even to the unfaithful and to the evil people-and we are to imitate Him.

He is kind to His children, the faithful ones, too. He is kind to us not because we are good but because He is good. That is His lovely character.

Jesus again said about the impartiality of God :

He maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. (Matthew 5:45)

That is it! He loves all. As the Scriptures says:

God so loved the world. (John 3:16)

He did not love just a few people who were "good". There is no one good, no not one. Paul wrote:

For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.

(Romans 3:23)

Let us remember that God loves all, but all don't love Him.

Those who know Him and His love, have a divine commission to make Him known to the rest. He said:

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations. (Matthew 28:19)

Don't be surprised, my friend, if you see the unbelievers being blessed by God and protected miraculously many times by angels and divine interventions the same way He does to us, His children.

In all this, He is wooing people to realize His goodness and repent of their evil ways. Paul wrote the reason for God's goodness:

Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance? (Romans 2:4)

Through love and tender mercies He is attempting to get all back to Him. But many, sadly, turn a blind eye to it!

ONE MIGHT SAY: Then what does it benefit being a believer if

God is good to all?

That is exactly what the Paul anticipated, and answered further down:

What advantage then hath the Jew? (Romans 3:1)

Listen to Paul's answer:

Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God. (Romans 3:2)

Yes, there are great advantages in knowing God. We become "ambassadors" (2 Corinthians 5:2), whereas unbelievers are not; we become "Heirs of God, and joint heirs with Christ" (Romans 8:17); we have the divine understanding of His Word, His will, and the prophecies that make clear the future. The unbelievers do not understand any of these; they grope in darkness.

Is it worth being a believer in Jesus? Yes, verily yes! We have the assurance of eternal life, peace, security, happiness, etc. And, even here, when we go through trials, we have divine comfort because of the knowledge of His Word and the comforting presence of the Holy Spirit!

Listen to what people said in Malachi's day:

Your words have been stout against me, saith the LORD. Yet ye say, What have we spoken so much against thee? Ye have said, It is vain to serve God: and what profit is it that we have kept his ordinance, and that we have walked mournfully before the LORD of hosts? And now we call the proud happy; yea, they that work wickedness are set up; yea, they that tempt God are even delivered. (Malachi 3:13-15)

God's people made these statements, and God was not pleased.

He says, "Your words have been stout against me". They forgot the goodness of God, and the reason for God's mercy towards all. They said, "It is vain to serve God"! What a blasphemous statement that was from believers! And they also said, "What profit is it that we have kept his ordinance, and that we have walked mournfully before the LORD of hosts?" What profit? Did these believers become blind to see the profit of serving God-the eternal profit?

But there were a few people who understood why things were so. They feared God and thought upon His name. Malachi wrote:

Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name. (Malachi 3:16)

It appears that God is not doing much about things and not putting a difference between His people and the rest. But it is not so. Those who are not spiritually blind, can see things clearly, and know the end result.

We have already seen why God is kind and longsuffering towards all-good and bad, the just and the unjust, the faithful and the unfaithful. One day He is going to show to all, and they can clearly differentiate between the sheep and the goat, the wheat and the tare, the wise and the foolish, the just and the unjust. Listen to the Master's Word:

And they shall be mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him. Then shall ye return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that

serveth him not. (Malachi 3:17, 18)

This distinction may not appear now. And not many may think it is worth! But do not mistake dear friend. God is keeping an unerring and an accurate record, and all will know the eternal result, and the fallacy of human reasoning. Solomon wrote:

Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil. (Ecclesiastes 8:11)

The day of reckoning and accountability is not far away. The

Judge of all the earth is coming back to give due reward-punishment of death, or joy and eternal life-to all. He said:

And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. (Revelation 22:12)

He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. (Revelation 21:7, 8)

When you see God's hand of blessing and protection anywhere remember it is because God is good. He has eternal and unlimited blessings in store for all, but only those who will make it to Heaven can receive that.

Let us not worry when the wicked prosper. The Psalmist declares under inspiration:

Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.

Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth. (Psalm 37:1-3, 9)
